The
art scene and the web, part 2
by
dangermouse (1st
January, 1999)
Last
month we looked at the 'mainstream' art scene related sites
that populate the web waves. Now let's look the personal
creations which are just as innovative and appeasing to
the eye.
It is
important to understand that the personal sites of many
of the artists featured within this article, or even personal
sites in general are a valuable resource for the art scene
and indeed to the artists which create them. Not only do
they provide insight into the artist themselves, but also
act as important jump points for prospective employers and
people in the "real world" in general.
Creator
Creator, of Avenge and Razorshift has a nifty little
site all about himself. Housed within a small window,
the site makes good use of space he has chosen to
work with, a skill he shares with Spot. A nicely designed
site which unfortunately hasn't been updated in a
little while.

Grim
This is one funky site, with a new-age, design-school
feel to it. Its one of those run of the mill bio sites
with a difference: it has a javascript TV screen that
displays each of his favourite art works, although
this feature is a little slow. Cool site.

Hfaze
This guy can design a nice site. Featuring a quick,
clean navigation style, and pretty graphics (:>),
this site is packed full of information on the artist.
A bio, links, his gallery, and even a tutorials page
(PSD).

Jae
Jae's website has been up for a quite a while, and
features a pretty cool 3D-ish/spacey navigation bar.
The site has a absolute shitload of his artwork from
either the hirez or ansi medium, and also tons of
other info on him.

Lord
Scarlet
What a nice site, even though its all green :) Strangely,
the colour scheme works well. The site features mainly
his friend's photos and bios, but also includes some
info on ansi and himself. It would have been nice
to see some examples of your art. He also has a flash
version in the works.

Remission
The thing I like about Remission's site is that its
so concise and to the point. Very nice design showing
his personal info and sizable art collection.

Rorshack
Even though I have no idea what his site contains
text wise (it's in another language!), the design
is still pretty damned nice. He has, by the looks
of it, got tons of information in here about himself
and his qualifications.

Spot
Spot, also of Razorshift and Avenge, has a beauty
of a site. It includes a bio, links and an extensive
photo gallery of his friends. Featuring a compact
and fresh frames based layout, it should act as a
good point of reference for clients when seeking the
services of Razorshift Studios. Just one thing dude,
change the splash page to just the anime chick. :)

Tatharina
Although she has been inactive within the scene for
few months (oOze), I thought her site needed showing.
Being a design student in Australia, you would expect
a good site, and she delivers with this fresh, clean
and quirky little site all about a 152cm tall person.

Tim
Wallace - Colony
Tim has one of the nicest sites I have seen in the
art scene today. It features many of his renders that
we have all seen throughout the iCE packs this year.
He also has a bio section and even a download of an
animation -- if you like waiting for 13 megs..

Xten
For one of the vFive boys, you'd expect a kickass
site. Xten has outdone himself here. Just go have
a look, I can't explain it :)

Well,
that's about it.. I think by looking the featured sites,
it is more than apparent that a lot of talent lies within
the scene, especially when it comes to design and web publishing.
I enjoyed looking at them..
