You're looking at the last static copy (1999) of Acheron.org, more recent but partial copies exist in the wayback machine. This site is online out of nostalgia and because of it's historic content, an up to date ANSI/ASCII art archive is available from 16colo.rs

  The Savage Lands
by kyo (Feb 1998)

You awaken as the sun's raise fill your eye's with a yellowish glow. Slowly you wipe the sleep out of your eyes and wander over to your computer. Flip the rustic switch to the "ON" position and wait as it boots up. Finally you log into your Internet account and startup mIRC.

ACD-DCC /MSG XDCC SEND #n FOR PACK "n" [1] Brand *NEW* ACiD Pack!!! (999 megs) ^---- the best of the best!!!

You think to yourself "hmm.. more VGA art, that'll be interesting, but what the hey" you /msg to the Acid bot and download the brand new Acid pack. you shell to DOS and unzip all the files, looking, looking, looking.. suddenly you open up this PHAT Catbones VGA with the words "The Savage Lands" on it. You say to yourself, now where have I seen those words before? Oh yeah, now I remember, everywhere...

The Savage Lands? Just what is this, is it a new group? an awesome webpage? someone who ripped? No, its actually a bulletin board system. Remember those things? the kinky ANSI-driven DOS-ran online pieces of cheese that we all used to call. Well its back, only this time, its got the power of a cable modem, the experience of 4 Sysops, and amazing graphics from everywhere. The following interview with Menace, Sysop / Host of The Savage Lands will probably bring everyone up to speed.

£££ (topic!#tsl) (_menace d =tsl= The Savage Lands =tsl=) @(05:04pm)

Menace:
Ok.. shoot

Kyo:
Okay, I am hearing a lot about this board named The Savage Lands or TSL, who exactly is a part of this "phenomenon" if you will?

Menace:
TSL is operated & maintained by Menace, Gunthar, TheMESSIAH, and Bugsy.

Kyo:
So what do you expect of this board? what's its aspirations?

Menace:
TSL is devoted to bring back a SCENE-WISE bulletin board system, for all of the artists, being whatever you draw, to gather on one board and have a home for all. That's were resurrection comes in Resurrection is devoted to the revival of art boards.

Kyo:
What exactly is Resurrection and how does it play a part in TSL?

Menace:
Well, I am not one to talk about Resurrection, because I know just as much as you do, but what I do know is that "Resurrection" is devoted to the BBS scene, and to show how important BBS's are to ANSI/ASCII Resurrection will have an echomail net, "Resurenet" (I think that's what Hal is naming it) Resurrection was founded by Halaster and Gunthar.

Kyo:
Now back to TSL, so how is this board going to stand out above the "average art board" what makes this board so incredible compared to previous BBB's that have come and gone?

Menace:
Well.. we have 4 of the most experienced obv/2 modders around, and GREAT ART! [DRAW PEOPLE], other than that.. I can't say.... the users will have to decide on that one.. but I'm telling you, don't miss this opportunity and, I haven't seen a board dedicated to the art scene in a long time, besides

The Regency, that's all that I can remember.

Kyo:
Do you think, for maybe even a split second, that this board might have the "Riven syndrome" i.e. too much hype and nothing to back it up?

Menace:
a SPLIT?!?! I thought about it for days, but no, not anymore.

Kyo:
From past references I've heard that this board is going to be run off of your computer in Canada? how did you four (the sysops) come to this conclusion?

Menace:
Well, this was MY idea to do all this, then Gunthar heard I wanted to run a Telnet board, he changed the name from Tarango to The Savage Lands. then... we decided to have a TSL-team.

Kyo:
Then the op list just began to unearth?

Menace:
We invited TheMESSIAH, then MHZ [bugsy] we tried to get Krisis in,.. but he wouldn't answer his email.. or either he died =]

Kyo:
What are the exact specs of The Savage Lands? What's the software? access restrictions, modem speed etc.?

Menace:
TSL is running on Oblivion2 2.40a4 both Telnet and dial-up access for users see, the op (ME) is quite rich, so I can handle all payments needed dial-up will be 33.6 or faster.. whatever is fastest I can get.. and Telnet.. probably a cable modem.. since Canada is still slow in its technology =] there are no restrictions for users 'except its art related

Kyo:
Is there anything else that you would like to tell the world regarding TSL, or Resurrection?

Menace:
TSL - a home for all of us

Kyo:
Well, thanks for the information menace, it sounds that TSL is going to be everything it's cracked up to be.

Editors Note ::
This was an interview with Menace (Fire Productions and Awe Lettering) Menace is one of the sysops for The Savage Lands, the interview takes place in channel #tsl the official channel of The Savage Lands BBS and any personal references, suggestions does not necessarily reflect the interviewer or interviewee.

You log off IRC and shut down your computer, with one click your computer is off, you look around at the outside world and see the stars, outside you hear children playing and you begin to wonder what exactly is the point of all this? You subside yourself as you slowly tuck yourself into bed and fall into a deep sleep of tranquility.
