*** spot_ changes topic to 'acheron presents.... the Knave..'

spot:
ok.. knave.. thanks for being with us today... so lets start with a rundown.. (name/age/sex(yes please! =) ) work/live)

the knave:
its a pleasure

My name is Eric Jordan. Im a 19 year old male and I work for an environmental consultant firm doing graphics for a new futuristic part of San Clemente, CA, my hometown

Im also a DJ partime

spot:
very interesting.. so, any special someone?

the knave:
I have a girlfriend who appreciates my art (though Id never fully explain the scene cause I think she'd turn and run :>

spot:
kinda funny how people fear what they dont understand ok, so what are your past affilz, how long you been around and who got you into the scene..?

the knave:
Ive been in the scene for 6 years...Ive been in some old 714 groups: Lynch Mob, Koolphaze. Then I joined ACiD a while back and then left for iCE.

I actually used to draw ansi, but got accepted to ACiD with my first hirez

haha

I'd been drawing freehand all my life...and decided it was time to switch from ansi into digital art that wasnt as limiting

A scanner allowed me to bring in my own art: pencils, ink, oils. You name it.

spot:
ok, my sources tell me you did not leave ACiD but got kicked out... for plagerism?

the knave:
What happened was that I had done some photomanipulation, and I didnt credit the original artisit on a part I used. I guess it was grounds for temination by ACiD's standards...

It was basically a misunderstanding...and now to make sure there isnt question...I scan ALL 100% original inkwork

I dont use filters anymore either.

I was actually pleased by the whole event, cause I have always been partial to iCE's professionalism...Its the way I like to do things.

## At this point Catbones walks in a sits down to watch ##

## ---------------------------------------------------- ##

spot:
my ACiD contacts tell me they were disgusted by the whole affair.. because iCE does not hold as high as standards...

what do you have in defense to this?

the knave:
Well, i admit there was a problem with not crediting the original artist for the portion I used. If you'll take note, I was accepted to ACiD with my first hirez image ever. I was a baby with photoshop (filter happy). I didnt realize that what I should have been doing is scanning my freehand art.

Now, I dont use a single filter. All artwork is 100% original ink work and the tool I use is "paint" set on "multiply".

If you'll notice, the graphics I released in ACiD were almost too sharp, almost over filtered. My iCE images show my transformation (the aqcuisition of a scanner) and the dedication to produce more creative images.

Ive always been creative and I was pretty sadden by the fact that what i was doing didnt have any creativity at its core.

spot:
Ok, but didnt you find it strange that iCE would pick you up so soon... knowing why you were dismissed from ACiD??

That tells me iCE is willing to pick up ACiD's scraps (no offense to you)

the knave:
Not really, cause I applied to them with something I had drawn to show my new style. I drew a really nice iCE font and a scene that was truely Knave-style.

iCE picked me up cause they saw I could draw. Simple as that.

## ------------------------------------------------------------- ##

spot:
ok, since you got into iCE do you feel you have moved up in the world of things or do you wish you could have stayed with ACiD?

the knave:
I had been watching ACiD for 6 years, put out quality images...but I realized that with iCE I got a chance to start fresh. Everyone seemed to become angry at me because I had done something that I didnt realize was going jeapordize everything I was as an artist.

I enjoy being with iCE.

i had a deadline...I was close to the edge, I got sloppy. Now I start my images at least 3 weeks in advance and work on them a little each night. Im working towards quality now.

spot:
You didn't feel like it was a step down going to iCE after ACiD, settling for your "second choice"?

the knave:
What I decided is that the member make a group, and if I could help iCE become a first choice, then so be it. I've been helping out iCE in a lot of ways, and I dont think that either group should be looked at as better than the other.

For the record, sure I miss ACiD. One day I was drawing images and then next day I was being called a plagerist. It was scary when it happened. i didnt even have time to catch my breath. I sat down for a second and asked myself "what happened there knave?"

spot:
well that blows my next question away.. =)

the knave:
haha

spot:
i would like to say now.. that i appreiciate your honestly..

the knave:
of course...

## Cat leaves ##

*** Parts: CatBones

## ---------- ##

spot:
So, are you doing anything besides iCE right now?

the knave:
Well, Avenge asked me to do graphics for their website. Other than that, just little vga requests on the side from people..

## Creator leaves (split) ##

*** Quits: creator_

## ------------------------------------------ ##

spot:
ok

So who have been your influences over the years...?

the knave:
Well, back in the day I was in touch with Lord Jazz...who got me into ansi, but for hirez, Ive been watching tomppa1 and catbones for a while. I appreciate they're creative styles.

## Creator is back! ##

*** Joins: creator_

## ---------------- ##

the knave:
Also, I like Jae's work of iCE....he's got some nice stuff goin on.

spot:
Ok, well as you know the Awards98 is coming up end of August.... you are not on the hirez nominee list... how do you feel about this?

the knave:
There was a period of about a year when I was away from the scene...I spent my time drawing on a sketch pad down at the harbor..thats when MY style started to take form. thats mostly where my abstract stuff comes from (a time when I was dealing with depression).

If you'll notice Catbones isnt even nominated. Im not sure artists should be voted on as the BEST anyway. Each person has there own style. And I avoid popularity contests at all costs

Also, I dont feel I deserve to be nominated cause Im fairly new to hirez (though a veteran of freehand art). There are guyz who have been doing hirez for four years and i think they deserve some credit.

spot:
So, you really dont agree with the Awards98?

## Catbones is back! ##

*** Joins: CatBones

## ----------------- ##

the knave:
hehe...I think its nice for people to get recognized....I just think its for the wrong reasons. Also, I think there are alot of people competent of being nominated, but arent...so its a little unfair

spot:
ok... thats fair..

so, do you have any longterm plans.. marriage... anything? =)

and..

why avoid "popularity contests" as you call them. what's the harm in being popular?

the knave:
I plan on drawing, DJing, but mostly having fun. I have a great job right now. (22.50/hour at the age of 19 is nice)...as for marriage...it doesnt suit me for a while..

i think some people are great artists but arent as popular because maybe people dont like they're handle, or judged them too early.

Its the underdogs sometimes that deserve the credit.

## Cat leaves ##

*** Parts: CatBones

## ---------- ##

spot:
true

.. so where do you see yourself going in the scene... are you gonna stay with iCE for a while or do you see yourself moving along anytime in the future..?

the knave:
i plan on staying with iCE as long as I can keep staying with the creative edge...once thats gone, its time to pack up and relive the ACiD mistake :]

spot:
and .. just wondering..

CatBones is a "popular" artist in the scene, you think his art is any less because he's let his popularity ruin his scene appearance?

the knave:
No way, I cant speak much for individual situations, I just know that popularity tends to get in the way of what we are trying to acheive here...which is great art.

i appreciate his art, and I dont give a thought to his popularity.

spot:
Ok, well this thing with Avenge you said you are helping in the web division... is this a long term thing is a one timer or what.. and what does iCE think about it?

the knave:
Well, Im not so sure if Avenge wants a plagerist on their team. And god knows Im not popular =]

hehe...just having a little fun with ya.

spot:
heh... so what does iCE think about it?

the knave:
the moment I got asked to do this, I went over to #ice and asked them what they thought...

they were okay with it...probably based on the fact that I asked them first.

spot:
Well, that very creditable of iCE ...

So, we here your working on this new secrect(?) project with Avenge.. something called "friction" ? is it?

can you tell us anything?

the knave:
Well, its a new site being designed inorder to satisfy the need for a reputible REVIEW section.

Operation just doesnt cut it when the operator says he's bored of reviewing art right on the page.

Operation Rescue that is.

So this Friction site is a quality webzine for the scene to get quality reviews on art

spot:
So, its based around reviews?

the knave:
not necessarily BASED around reviews, but its one of our main focuses.

We want something thats maintained 24 hours, and updated by the minute.

spot:
Ok, now when we got a chance to talk with Creator a few weeks ago he mentioned something about one main 'focus' is to "piss people off" are the exact words he used..... whats the deal there?

the knave:
Im not sure. I didnt here those words. i was simply asked to design a left hand interface and do a little webmastering.

If thats the focus, then we need to do a little restructuring :> Starting with a priority check.

spot:
hahah

that might be a good idea..

well i think i have hammered you enough my friend..

we thank you for being here with us this morning...

the knave:
You sure you dont want to call this Interrogation rather than interview?

spot:
=)

i warn people.. that this is MY world.. and i'll ask whatever i deem nessecary...

sorry.. i forgot to tell you,,. =)

the knave:
I had a good time being slaughtered. I wont kill your family, cause Im a good sport. =]

spot:
hey... it makes for good ratings tho.. =)

the knave:
ahh....well, i've got nothing to hide....glad to be of service. To the world out there: STAY REAL.

spot:
haha

the knave:
Its the only thing we have left.

spot:
well this is Spot and i'm here with The Knave from iCE and Avenge..

spot:
would you like to throw out any greetz before we close?

the knave:
I'd like to send out greetz to Creator, MassD, and Kajeba (have fun in Hong Kong!)

Latez!

And of course you Spot. Will you be my best friend?!

spot:
haha... yeah..

the knave:
Knave...signing off.

spot:
btw.. you do know this interview has nothing to do with my personal view of you..

its just my job fewl.. =)

the knave:
Im glad. You scared me there for a minute.

spot:
ok..

spot:
This is a Spot interview and has been a production of acheron.org ..

peace out!

:: Note :: I really slammed Knave pretty hard here, and he was a very good and honest sport about the whole thing. I would like to personally thank him for being with us.
